Veto

im thinking perhaps members should need to supply the reasoning behind a veto if we are to do so on an application / invitation. it hardly seems professional to veto without supplying anyone with a reason, whats to stop someone vetoing based of biased opinion and inacurate facts?

Why is the veto system in place?

We are a group, group decisions should be made by majority vote... One's opinion should not make all the difference in the case of an application or any other clan made decision.

I think we need to think this through and adjust the system, it is clear that by doing this we are going down the wrong path and it could be damaging to the clan if we don't get this sorted out.

The veto system was setup to curtail points of contention within the clan, and it has been a long point of discussion (Dating back to when the clan was not even a year old). Specific to recent events, the veto was put in place to simplify the application process (as can be seen in the posts listed below).

First forum talks about veto system:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=570&start=30#p4337
Initial proposal:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=700
Finalization of veto:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=700#p5432

Outside of these discussions on the forums, there several of IRC discussions about the topic. IRC discussions of such a thing span all the way back to June of 2011. Rational being that cm is meant to be a closer group. That being said, a majority system does not work when some people have much stronger opinions than others. This is what brought up the original discussion in relation to another person's application. Some members had a long history with one applicant, and voted to keep them out because they have strong negative opinions of the person. Many others from the clan voted to accept the person to the clan (by a large margin).

This item of course caused a lot of issues at the time...

two vetos makes more sense to me. and im definatly going to agree with saying that its a hard system to get right, all we can really do is keep refining it when issues arise

Seeing that invitations require two vetoes now, would one veto cause the application process up to 3 weeks? For example Jiko's application, a member voted no/veto. And that was just one person.

Yes, in the wiki it is currently like that. Minimum one veto makes the application process last 3 weeks in order to respect the veto of the clan member. 2 active vetos after 2 weeks reject the invitation.
